A man was threatened with a meat cleaver as he had sex with woman after being lured to a house in a honey trap plot.

Dean Allen, 32, who has been jailed for two years, burst into the living room of the property in Alloa, Clackmannanshire, and assaulted Mark Aimer.

The High Court in Edinburgh heard Mr Aimer had been "enticed" to the property after exchanging explicit Facebook messages with the woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons.

The victim did not realise Allen and the women had hatched a plan against him.

The pair thought their victim, of Alloa, would be carrying cannabis and the ruse would be a good way to get their hands on the drug.

The plan culminated with Allen interrupting the couple as they had sex on a sofa and launching a vicious assault on Mr Aimer.

Allen, a prisoner at HMP Barlinnie, repeatedly bit and butted his victim on the head before seizing him by the neck.

He then repeatedly butted Mr Aimer on the head before attempting to rob his victim of his possessions.

Mr Aimer, who did not have any cannabis on him, fought back and escaped.

Allen, who has numerous previous convictions, was later arrested.

He pleaded guilty on Friday to assaulting Mr Aimer to his injury on March 3, 2017.

Allen was originally charged with attempted murder but prosecutors dropped the allegation after Allen pleaded guilty to the lesser charge.

On Friday, prosecution lawyer Murdo McTaggart told the court Mr Aimer had previously slept with the woman.

He said the woman and Mr Aimer had spent the morning of March 3 chatting on Facebook Messenger.

He added: "They discussed meeting up to have sex.

"The chat was explicit and the pair exchanged explicit photographs of themselves."

Unknown to Mr Aimer, Allen and the woman had agreed to entice him to the property with the intention of robbing him.

Mr McTaggart said: "Once inside the living room he and the woman began kissing. The complainer and the woman removed their clothes and began having sexual intercourse in the living room.

"After a few minutes and while the complainer and the woman was having sex, the accused, Dean Allen, burst into the living room brandishing a meat cleaver.

"The accused Allen screamed at the complainer. The complainer got dressed in a rush while the accused Allen brandished the cleaver above his head."

Once Mr Aimer had got dressed Allen demanded cannabis but the victim said he did not have any and a struggle ensued.

Mr McTaggart said Mr Aimer grabbed Allen and punched him to make his escape.

He continued: "The complainer then ran out of the front door. During the struggle in the flat some of the complainer's clothing had come off and property had fallen out.

"He discovered he was missing his cap, his Chelsea top, a hoody containing his wallet and contents, an iPhone, some tobacco, one of his shoes and a knife."

Mr Aimer drove his car a short distance before stopping round the corner.

He was then spotted slumped over the steering wheel by a passer-by who raised the alarm after Mr Aimer told him he had been attacked.

The court heard Mr Aimer did not need medical treatment for his injuries.

Defence advocate Sarah Livingstone told the court her client had mental health issues but accepted responsibility for his actions.

She added: "Mr Allen has never sought to minimise his actions. He accepts responsibility for what he has done."

Passing sentence, Lord Armstrong told Allen that if he had not pleaded guilty to the assault, he would have been sentenced to two and a half years in prison.
