A Good Samaritan was slashed by a man he had stopped to help.

Andrew William Smith was walking through Quarryfield Park in Cambuslang on his way to his mother's house when the attack took place.

The 29-year-old was on a path between Salvia Street and Dukes Road at around 6.45pm on Friday when he approached a man he thought needed help.

But the man, described as in his mid-50s and possibly with a gold-plated front tooth, spun round and slashed Andrew across the cheek using a bladed weapon.

Mr Smith was taken to Hairmyres Hospital to be treated for his injuries and was released after treatment.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "At around 7pm on Friday, October 20, we received a report of a man being assaulted by another man within Quarryfield Park in Cambuslang.

"Emergency services attended and the victim was taken to Hairmyres Hospital and released after treatment.

"Enquiries are continuing."
