A Scottish writer started her holiday in style when she discovered she was the only passenger on a £46 flight from Glasgow to Crete.

Karon Grieve, a cookbook author and radio personality from Dunlop, East Ayrshire, received VIP treatment when she was the only person aboard the Jet2 flight last Sunday.

The 57-year-old was told at check-in that two other people were booked to travel on the end-of-season flight with the budget airline but they never showed up.

She was treated to any seat she wanted on the aircraft, along with a free meal, free drinks and the full attention of staff.

Ms Grieve said: "I got a free meal and free drinks and lots of lovely company because all the staff kept coming round and chatting to me, including the pilot and co-pilot... at separate times obviously!

"It was just really, really good fun, it was so relaxed and friendly.

"They didn't stand on ceremony or anything - we were all on first-name terms before they even closed the doors."

The pilot gave Ms Grieve a personalised commentary during the flight, addressing her over the intercom by name and pointing out which countries they were flying over.

After landing in Crete, she was handed her suitcase right off the plane, rather than having to wait at the airport's baggage area like most holidaymakers.

Ms Grieve said she would "never, ever forget" the experience.

"This is one for the memories, always," she added.
