A man has been gunned down with a shotgun while working on a car.

The 41-year-old was working in a farm yard at Crosslee Farm in Bridge of Weir, Renfrewshire, when he was shot at from behind on Tuesday.

Officers are treating the attack at 2.30pm as an attempted murder.

STV News understands the man was shot in the buttocks.

He was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley and is in a stable condition.

A dark green car occupied by up to four men made off towards Barochan Road immediately after the shooting.

Officers are checking CCTV in the area.

Detective chief inspector Fil Capaldi said: "The motive for this attack is not clear, however we do believe the victim was the intended target.

"While the farm is in a rural location, there were several people visiting the farm for various reasons throughout the morning and afternoon and I am appealing to anyone who was there and who may have seen the car or has any information that could assist our enquiries to get in touch."

Anyone with information is asked to contact 101.
