A bus has caught fire in East Kilbride, causing delays for drivers during rush hour.

Flames broke out on the double-decker First bus shortly after 7am on Friday near Kingsgate Retail Park in the South Lanarkshire town.

Two lanes of a roundabout outside the retail park were closed with diversions put in place as firefighters dealt with the incident.

There were no reports of anyone being injured on the vehicle and the flames were brought under control before 8am.

First Glasgow said it was investigating the cause of the fire.

A spokesman said: "We can confirm that there was a fire on one of our vehicles this morning at Kingsgate in East Kilbride. There were no passengers on board the vehicle at the time.

"The driver noticed smoke coming from the engine bay. He pulled over and immediately called the emergency services who were quickly on the scene.

"We have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire."

A fire service spokeswoman said: "We were called to reports of a double-decker bus on fire."
