A man who raped a 14-year-old girl in a "disgusting and degrading attack" behind an Iceland supermarket has been jailed for nine years.

Samuel Ciornei, 20, followed the teenager to a car park behind the shop near Arthurlie Street in Barrhead, East Renfrewshire, on August 7 last year.

He then got hold of the girl's bike, grabbed her by the hair and threatened her with a piece of glass from a bottle of Guinness.

Mr Ciornei then made her crawl into bushes and held her down before raping her.

The teenager was so scared she did what she was told before being raped.

The Romanian national, who only arrived in Scotland on July 19 last year, was jailed for nine years at the High Court in Glasgow on Friday.

Labourer Ciornei, who left school to become a shepherd, will be sent back to Romania when he is eligible for release.

He has also been put on the sex offenders register.
