Carers who allegedly murdered a woman not seen since 1999 have had their bid to overturn a decision denying them bail rejected.

Eddie Cairney, 76, and Avril Jones, 57, have been charged with murder following the disappearance of Margaret Fleming.

Fleming, of Inverkip in Inverclyde, was reported missing by the couple on October 28 last year.

Lawyers representing Mr Cairney and Ms Jones submitted an appeal to the High Court to overturn the decision to remand them in custody.

Their bid has now been thrown out, meaning they will continue to be held in custody.

The pair have also been charged with abduction and assault, attempting to defeat the ends of justice and fraud.
