A man was attacked by an armed gang while he carried out gardening work.

Police Scotland said the 30-year-old victim was ambushed with weapons around 1.30pm on Saturday, outside an address on Brownsdale Road in Rutherglen, South Lanarkshire.

It is unclear if the man and his 36-year-old colleague, who both worked for a private firm, were targeted or attacked at random.

The worker was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where he was treated for a back injury then released.

His workmate managed to run away and was uninjured.

The only description of the gang responsible is that they were wearing dark clothing.

Detective constable Stewart Walton, of Cambuslang Police Office, is appealing to anyone who was in the area of Brownsdale Road around the time of the serious assault to come forward.

Police declined to comment on the weapons used.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Cambuslang Police Office on 101 quoting reference number 2009 of the 11th November or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
