Deer caused a multiple-vehicle crash on the M74 after running out into heavy traffic.

The road was briefly shut following the collision near Cambuslang in South Lanarkshire at 10am on Wednesday.

It is believed to have happened after a driver swerved in an attempt to avoid the deer.

Nobody was seriously injured but a baby and an elderly man were examined by paramedics.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "At around 10am, police responded to reports of a multiple-vehicle road traffic collision on the M74 at Junction 2.

"Two deer had run out into heavy traffic. Nobody was seriously injured but an elderly man and a baby were checked over by paramedics.
