A pensioner is fighting for his life after he was struck by a people carrier while crossing a road in Glasgow.

The 76-year-old man was hit by a white Ford Galaxy while on the carriageway of Dumbarton Road near Burns Street in Dalmuir.

Police Scotland said the incident happened at around 5.15pm on Sunday.

The pedestrian was taken the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where staff describe his condition as critical.

The 35 year-old Galaxy driver was uninjured.

Officers have urged anyone with information about the accident to come forward.

Sergeant Paul MacPherson, of Dumbarton Police Office, said: "We would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident and has any information that can help us to get in touch."
