A burst pipe in Ayrshire has left 1500 residents without water overnight.

Scottish Water say the water main in Glasgow Road, Kilmarnock has now been repaired and is working to restore normal supply to customers.

The burst was located on Saturday afternoon on a 16 inch water main leaving around 1500 properties have been affected by the incident.

Teams worked overnight to carry out the repair which was completed by Sunday morning and the water main is now being re-charged.

A Scottish Water spokesman said: "The repair proved to be complex and we would like to thank customers for their patience while we continue to resolve the situation.

"We apologise to anyone who has been without water during the period of this incident and would like to assure you that we are doing all that we can to ensure supplies are restored."

When normal water supplies are restored, affected properties could experience discoloured water which is normal after a burst of this nature.

Customers are advised to run the cold water tap in their kitchen until the water runs clear.
