A man has been detained for a "related incident" after the body of a woman was found in a house in a rural village

Police Scotland confirmed the alarm was raised around 6am after a motorist on the A75 stopped to help an injured man in Carrutherstown, Dumfries and Galloway.

A second man was found yards away and both were taken to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary.

Officers were then informed about an incident in a house nearby which led to the discovery of the body of a 52 year-old woman.

Police have now confirmed one of the men, a 35 year-old, has been detained in connection with a "related incident".

All three are believed to be known to each other and officers are not looking for anyone else in connection with the death, which is being treated as suspicious.

He added: "Police were contacted and when we were speaking to that male we learned that another episode had occurred in a house elsewhere in the village.

"When police responded to that house we found that sadly a 52-year-old lady as a result of an incident within that household."

The senior office said the incident is being treated as "suspicious".

Chief Insp Stiff added: "I want to reassure you that one 35-year-old male has been detained and is in police custody in connection with an incident related to the episode which took place in the house.
