Two lorries have been deliberately set ablaze in a lay-by on the A71 in South Lanarkshire.

The HGVs were parked between Canderside Toll and Stonehouse when the incident happened at around 5am on Wednesday.

Nobody was injured as the lorries were empty but both vehicles were destroyed.

Police Scotland is treating the incident as an act of wilful fire-raising.

It has asked any witnesses to contact officers as soon as possible.

A spokesman said: "We are appealing for any information and in particular any motorists who may have driven past the area where the lorries were parked, around the time of the incident who perhaps have dash cam footage."
