Major rush hour delays are being caused after a five-vehicle smash on the M8.

The crash happened on the busy route heading eastbound at junction 6, Newhouse, North Lanarkshire, at 6.20am on Thursday.

Officers closed the outside lane, causing tailbacks past Eurocentral. The stretch was later reopened at 8.05am.

No one has been seriously injured.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "It initially came to us as three vehicles but we now believe it to be five.

"It is very foggy on the roads at the moment. Drivers are advised to take caution."
