A man has been ambushed in a car by a gang armed with knives.

The attack happened on Lochleven Road at its junction with Dundrennan Road in Battlefield, Glasgow.

A 37-year-old man was parked in a Citroen Berlingo when four men with knives attacked him at 7pm on Monday, January 2.

The gang then made off in a grey BMW 3 series before it was found on fire at Linn Park Golf Club 30 minutes later.

Officers said the car had false plates and was stolen from Giffnock, East Renfrewshire.

The man was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary with minor injuries.

Detective sergeant Craig Warren said: "Extensive enquiries are continuing into this incident and officers have been carrying out enquiries in the local area and studying CCTV footage to identify the four men responsible.

"We believe that this was a targeted attack. This is a busy area and I would urge any witnesses to the incident who have not yet spoken to officers to come forward as they may have vital information that will assist our investigation.

"I would also urge anyone who saw a grey coloured BMW 3 series being driven through the Battlefield or Linn Park areas to contact us too."

Anyone with information is asked to contact 101.
