A man who was hit by a car in Paisley may have been pursued by the vehicle and struck deliberately, police have said.

The 27-year-old man was taken to hospital after he was hit by a dark car as he walked in Oliphant Crescent around 6.05pm on Friday.

The vehicle was later found a short distance away but the driver has not been traced.

Detectives are trying to establish whether the man was hit by the car deliberately after being pursued.

The 27-year-old has since been released from the Royal Alexandra Hospital.

Detective inspector Ian Ross from Paisley CID said: "One line of enquiry is that the victim may have been pursued and deliberately struck by this vehicle and it is vital that anyone who saw what happened contacts the police.

"I would appeal to anyone who was in the area of Oliphant Crescent on Friday evening around 6pm who noticed a dark coloured car driving erratically, or anything at all suspicious, to get in touch.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact Paisley CID via 101, quoting incident number 3106 of Friday, January 26.

"Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where details can be given in confidence."
