A man has been left with head injuries after being attacked by a hooded man in Blantyre.

The 30-year-old was taken to Hairmyres Hospital in East Kilbride following the assault on Carrick Gardens on Tuesday.

Medical staff who have been treating injuries to the victim's head and hand have described his condition as stable.

Police officers investigating the assault have appealed for help as they look to trace the man responsible.

The suspect is described as white, 5ft 10 with a slim build and gaunt appearance.

At the time of the attack he was wearing a black hooded top with the hood up.

Detective Constable Andrew Fearnside at Cambuslang CID said: "This was a violent attack which has left the victim with serious injuries requiring surgery to his hand.

"We have yet to establish a motive for this crime and appeal to anyone who was in the vicinity of Carrick Gardens around 6pm and witnessed the attack or anyone who has seen the suspect hanging around the area to contact CID at Cambuslang via telephone number 101.
