A man who died in a crash between the van he was driving and a tanker has been named by police.

Michael Reid, 63, from Dumfries, died at the scene of the smash on the A701 at Amisfield on Wednesday.

The driver of the Scania tanker, a 55-year-old man from Dumfries, was not hurt in the collision at around 1.45pm.

The road was closed for several hours as police investigated the incident.

Sergeant Leigh McCulloch said: "A full crash scene investigation was carried out and the road was closed until around 11pm on Wednesday night.

"We would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed this collision and would ask that they contact us on the 101 number."
