A beauty salon has been burnt to the ground following a suspected arson attack.

The fire ripped through at L'Perfection beauty salon on Whinknowe in Larkhall, South Lanarkshire, at 1.20am on Friday.

A silver car was seen in the area moments before and after the blaze happened.

Constable Alan Hamilton said the fire has left the business "burnt to the ground".

He said: "Although nobody was hurt during this incident, somebody's business has been burnt to the ground in an incident that we believe to have been targeted. It is vital that we find those responsible.

"It happened in the early hours of the morning, we would ask you to think back, were you woken by any noises, did you see anything suspicious in the area? You may have information that can help us.

"We have been making local enquiries and checking CCTV in the surrounding area and would also appeal to anyone who has their own private CCTV to come forward."

He added: "We are also keen to speak to the owners, or occupants of a small silver hatchback car, with a loud exhaust. It was seen in the area prior to and shortly after the incident and those within the car may know or have seen something.

"We believe that the answer to this investigation lies within the community and we would appeal to anyone with any information to come forward and contact us."

Anyone with information is asked to contact 101.
