Knife-wielding thieves have robbed a lollipop lady while she was working near a school.

The attack happened on Millgate Road near St Peter's Primary School in Hamilton at 3.30pm on Tuesday.

Two men used a knife to rob the 36-year-old woman of a two-figure sum of cash outside the Mill Inn before fleeing.

The first man is 5ft 5in, skinny, had a shaved head and rotten teeth. He was wearing a black tracksuit top, a white T-shirt and black tracksuit bottoms.

The second man is also 5ft 5in, heavy, with short dark hair and rotten teeth. He was wearing a black tracksuit top, a grey T-shirt and black tracksuit bottoms.

The lollipop lady was not injured in the incident.

Constable David MacMillan said: "These two despicable individuals preyed on a lollipop lady right in the middle of the school run and thankfully no children were beside her at the time.

"The area will have been busy with people collecting children from school and I would appeal to anyone who noticed these two men beside the lollipop lady, or in the surrounding area, to please get in touch.

"I would also ask any motorists with dash cams who were in the area around 3.30pm on Tuesday to come forward in case they have captured the incident or the suspects making off from the scene."
