A man stabbed his lodger to death after they argued about a broken TV.

Gordon Morning knifed Ricky Lee, 31, in the back as the victim sat on a sofa with lover Chloe Wilson last July.

The men's friendship had earlier soured after Morning, 56, was said to have made "advances" to Miss Wilson.

The convicted rapist later told police in a phone call: "I have murdered someone."

But Morning claimed he only struck Mr Lee as he had been swinging a hammer at him

The serial offender is now facing a lengthy sentence after he was convicted of culpable homicide under provocation following a trial at the High Court in Glasgow.

Morning had allowed Mr Lee and Miss Wilson to stay at his flat in the city's Gorbals last summer.

The couple had recently started dating after Miss Wilson, 32, moved to Glasgow from England.

Prosecutor Gordon Lamont asked her what sort of relationship she had with Morning but she said they were "just friends".

Mr Lamont asked about the relationship between Morning and Mr Lee.

The witness: "Fine at first, but Gordon started making advances to me.

"I told Ricky that Gordon had been making advances, but just to leave it.

"The relationship (between the men) became more difficult."

The former charity shop worker recalled the men returning from being out on July 3 - the day of the killing.

Miss Wilson: "I remember there was a conversation about a TV.

"They were shouting at each other, raised voices."

The court heard a television had earlier been broken and Mr Lee said: "I have gone out and helped you get a TV today."

The witness added they ended up "brawling" and "wrestling" with each other on the floor.

The row broke up and Mr Lee sat beside his lover on the couch.

But jurors heard Morning came from his bedroom and knifed Mr Lee in the back.

Miss Wilson went on: "He stabbed Ricky on the left side...I could not tell you if he said anything.

"He knew what he was doing - 100%.

"I believe someone who can walk up to someone and stab him, knew what he was doing."

She told how she yanked the blade from her lover's body as Morning left the flat.

A 999 call was made, but Mr Lee never survived.

The court heard Morning later told police: "I have murdered someone."

An emotional Miss Wilson said she has been "traumatised for months" by what happened.

She added it was "not true" that Morning had been protecting himself from being hit by a hammer.

Judge Lord Kinclaven deferred sentence for reports and will sentence Morning at the High Court in Aberdeen on March 23.
