A driver heading in the wrong direction knocked down a man who threw a bottle at his car.

Jordan Devine, 23, of Newlands, Glasgow, was originally charged with attempting to murder 33-year-old Bryan McNulty.

However, a jury at the High Court in Glasgow convicted him of the reduced charge of dangerous driving.

The court was shown footage of the incident in Jamaica Street, Glasgow, on January 11 last year, which showed Mr McNulty being thrown into the air.

He suffered a fractured skull and had to have a metal plate inserted in his arm.

Judge Lady Stacey ordered Devine to perform 150 hours unpaid work in the community and banned him from driving for three years.

She told him: "This was shocking driving. You drove in the wrong direction in a busy city centre road when it was full of cars and pedestrians.

"It seems you lost your temper when Mr McNulty threw a bottle at your car. Your conduct was reactionary and reckless rather than premeditated.

"You must realise you can't lose your temper when behind the wheel of a car. If you do you are a danger to everyone on the road."
