British Transport Police have released CCTV images of two men they wish to trace after a passenger was seriously assaulted on board a train.

The incident happened on the 12.15am Scotrail service on March 23 between Glasgow Central and Ayr.

A man was left with serious injuries following the attack which took place as the train travelled between Kilwinning and Irvine.

Officers believe the men shown in the CCTV images may have information which could help the investigation.

A representative said: "The victim received medical treatment following the assault, his injuries although serious, are not considered to be life threatening.

"Officers believe the men shown in the CCTV images may have information which could help the investigation."
