A man had to be rescued after falling 60ft into a gully from a rope swing.

At around 7pm on Wednesday Scottish Fire and Rescue were called to reports of a man falling into a gully, north of Cumnock in East Ayrshire.

Eleven fire engines were sent to the scene and the man has to be rescued via rope.

He was then transferred to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow by the coastguard helicopter.

A spokeswoman for Scottish Fire and Rescue said: "We received a call from Police Scotland at around 7.05pm on Wednesday night to reports of a man falling from a rope swing into a 60ft gully.

"We deployed 11 appliances and an officer to the gully 3km north of Cumnock.

"We carried out a cliff rope rescue and the male was transferred to a hospital in Glasgow."
