Over-running engineering works have caused disruption for commuters travelling by train on Monday morning.

Works on tracks near Rutherglen have caused delays for trains between Glasgow and Shotts, Falkirk Grahamston and Lanark.

The disruption is expected to continue until around 10am Monday morning.

ScotRail apologised for the delays and said tickets would be accepted on First buses.

The engineering work at Rutherglen is to improve tracks and signalling.

Network Rail, which maintains railway lines, had earlier said services would be impacted on Monday "because of the scale of work required."

It said in a Tweet: "More than 500 trains per day run through where we need to work so there is no ideal time to do this without some inconvenience."
