A severely emaciated dog had to be put down after being found abandoned in a park.

The female dog that was found towards the Bellshill side of Strathclyde Country Park also had a large wound in her chest that was possibly a week or two old.

The Scottish SPCA had to put the starved dog to sleep to prevent further suffering.

Inspector Jack Marshall said: "The poor girl was in such a bad state that the decision was made by a vet to put her to sleep to prevent any further suffering.

"She had a large wound in her chest that was possibly a week or two old."

The animal welfare charity is urging anyone who recognises the dog to get in touch with their animal helpline on 03000 999 999.
