A teenage boy has been found dead following a major search at a reservoir.

Police were sent to Glenburn Reservoir in Paisley, Renfrewshire, just after 5.30pm on Tuesday.

Diving and marine units were involved in the search after the alarm was raised at the site near Braehead Road.

The body of a 14-year-old boy - named locally as Ben Thomson - was found around 8.10pm.

Paramedics and the fire service were also involved in the operation, which took place following reports of a teenage boy in the water.

A police spokeswoman said: "Following a search, emergency services recovered the body of a 14 year-old boy from the water around 8.10pm.

"A post mortem examination will take place in due course to establish the exact cause of death however it is not being treated as suspicious. The family are aware.

"A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."

A crowdfunding page has been set up to raise money to support the Thomson family.
