The dad of a teenage boy found dead in a reservoir has described his son as the "sweetest boy you could meet".

Ben Thomson died at Glenburn Reservoir in Paisley, Renfrewshire.

The body of the 14-year-old, who played for Everton Boys Club, was found at 8.10pm on Tuesday.

His dad Barry said his son will be sorely missed.

He said: "He was a fun, loving and kind boy and would help anyone.

"He was the kindest and sweetest boy you could meet.

"He was a comedian in his own way and we'll never forget him."

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "A post-mortem examination will take place in due course to establish the exact cause of his death, however, it is not being treated as suspicious.

"A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal."

Scottish Water, the owners of the site, said it's assisting in the investigation into the death.

A spokesman said: "We have been working closely with the emergency services who responded yesterday evening to reports that a teenage boy had gone into the water at Glenburn Reservoir.

"We very much regret that the rescue effort was not successful and will assist in any way we can with the investigation of the circumstances.

"All our thoughts at this time are with the family and friends of the young person who has died."
