A controlled explosion has been carried out on a suspicious package found outside a house in Glasgow.

Police Scotland were called to the scene at Shieldhall Road at 10.40am on Thursday.

The Explosive Ordnance Division carried out an explosion and the package has been "made safe".

Locals told STV News that they "heard a wee bang".

The Environmental Protection Unit from Scottish Fire and Rescue also attended the scene.

Police officers say investigations are ongoing into the full circumstances, but the package was found not to be viable.

One house was evacuated as a precaution and surrounding roads were closed, but have now reopened to the public.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: "Enquiries are continuing into the suspicious package that was found on Shieldhall Road at 10.40am on Thursday.

"Officers have stood down from from the scene and the road has reopened to the public.

"After investigations by the EOD, the package was found not to be viable.
