Hundreds of mourners are expected to line the streets on Saturday as a funeral is held for Alesha MacPhail.

The six-year-old was found dead following a search in Rothesay, Isle of Bute, where she was visiting her dad and grandparents, earlier this month.

A 16-year-old boy, who can't be named for legal reasons, has since been charged with her rape and murder.

Mourners have been asked to wear pink during Alesha's funeral, which will take place in her home town of Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire.

She will be laid to rest at Coltswood Cemetery following a service.

A message posted online by MacGregor Family Funeral Directors last week said: "Alesha's family would welcome and be comforted by the attendance of anyone affected by this tragedy who wish to pay their final respects.

"We ask that the community show their support and help the family through this tragedy and through this very difficult day in their lives.

"Mum and Dad have requested that everyone wears something pink."

Alesha's death on Monday, July 2 sparked a huge outpouring of grief.

A crowdfunder was launched to raise money for her family, while a vigil on Bute was held in her memory.

Vigil organiser Carolashley Dickson told STV News: "It's touched everybody but I don't think anybody can even imagine what the family are going through right now.

"So this is just a gesture from us to say: 'Look, we kind of know you feel and we're there."

In a post with video on social media, Alesha's uncle said Calum MacPhail: "Me and my family would like to thank you for your ongoing support.

"I would also like to let yous see what sort of lovely wee girl my niece was and also what whoever has done this has taken from us.

"I am never going to be able to have this much fun with Alesha again but at least I have this memory of her."

He added: "There's a lot more I want to say but I just can't word it at this time.

"Rest in peace Alesha, I love you so much. Love uncle Calum."
