Glaswegians are publishing pictures of litter online to call attention to the city's problem with rubbish.

Louise Maclean said she had been "overwhelmed" by the response after setting up the Glasgow - No Clean City Facebook page.

Dozens of people have shared images of rubbish discarded around the city.

"The litter situation in Glasgow has been getting progressively worse and I've contacted the council a few times," Ms Maclean said.

"A couple of things happened last week which inspired me to go a little bit further.

"I was dropping my mother off at the airport and I heard an American couple talking about how Glasgow was great but there was litter flying around the streets.

"The other thing was that I took my child who is just learning to walk to Kelvingrove Park and it was so covered in litter I couldn't put her down on the ground," she said.

More than 700 people have signed up to No Clean City since the group was created three days ago.

Glasgow City Council land and environmental services manager Sharon McKechnie said: "We deal with a huge amount of waste every year and we've been investigating quite heavily the year - just under £10m.

"We've got a real conscious effort to improve the facilities for people to dispose of there waste."
