Two Croatian football fans were stabbed in a brawl before a Europa League clash between Rangers and NK Osijek in Glasgow.

The street fight happened on Edmiston Drive near Rangers' Ibrox Stadium shortly after 7pm on Thursday.

Two Croatian nationals, aged 24 and 40, were taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital after being stabbed before the Europa League match.

The 24-year-old was released from hospital on Friday morning while the other man is still being treated for his injuries.

Bottles and rocks were thrown at groups of supporters as people made their way to the game.

Flares were also hurled and people were assaulted with weapons.

Officers have described the incident as "disgraceful".

Chief inspector Alan Bowater said: "Supporters of both sides should be able to attend a football match without getting caught up in violence and disorder.

"Also, innocent members of the public should not have to be faced with the threat of encountering it.

"The individuals involved must be tracked down and held to account and Police Scotland will use every resource at its disposal to put a stop to this reckless behaviour.

"I would like to reassure members of the public that we take their safety extremely seriously and sufficient resources will be deployed at future games to tackle anti-social behaviour and violence."

Chief inspector Craig Willison added: "From CCTV, It looks like two sets of football fans have come together and a fight has started.

"Two males were stabbed however thankfully they have been treated at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

"At this stage, we are unclear at what started the disturbance but we are focussing on this through the CCTV."
