Thousands of homes and businesses have been left without water.

Two burst water mains on the M8 at junction 30 and on Wallace Street in Paisley have left properties in the area without clean supplies.

Engineers have been called while Scottish Water has warned of major disruption due to the faults.

Streets have also been flooded while those who have water have described it as "mud".

A Scottish Water spokesman said: "A burst water main at Wallace Street, Paisley, may be causing some customers to experience disruption to their supply.

"A squad is being organised and will be onsite shortly to commence with the emergency repairs.

"We apologise for any inconvenience this may be causing customers and will provide a further update as soon as more information becomes available."

He added: "Repairs are now under way at the burst at junction 30 of the M8.

"Customers in Paisley and the surrounding areas may see disruption to their normal water supply."

Glasgow Airport has also been affected by the issues, with disruption being caused to catering facilities.
