A man was slashed on the head with a knife during an attack by five men.

The assault on the 53-year-old took place shortly before 12.30am on Friday on Govan Road in Glasgow.

The man was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, where he was treated before being released.

Police say the man was on his way to meet his brother when he was attacked by the group following what they described as a "disturbance".

Detective sergeant Nick Gribben from Govan CID said: "At this time we have no indication as to why he was targeted and we know already from our house-to-house enquiries that there was a disturbance in the street.

"We would appeal to anyone who was either in the area and saw what happened or who has any information that will assist our investigation to come forward.

"At the moment the only description of the attackers was that they were maybe in their 20s."
