A man has been arrested and charged in connection with the rape of a woman in Glasgow city centre.

Police were called to the scene at around 6pm on Thursday after receiving reports of a 57-year-old woman being attacked at Stock Exchange Square on Nelson Mandela Place.

Officers cordoned off a nearby lane as they investigated the reports.

A 31-year-old has since been arrested in connection with the incident.

A police spokeswoman confirmed the arrest and said that enquires are ongoing.
