An elderly woman has died after being hit by a car as she crossed the road.

Elizabeth Dunnion, 85, was struck on Bridge of Weir Road in Linwood, Renfrewshire, on Saturday.

She was taken to Paisley's Royal Alexandra Hospital with a serious head injury and died the following day.

The 27-year-old driver of the black Mazda 3 was not hurt in the crash near Hart Street at around 5.10pm.

Police have appealed for witnesses and anyone with information should contact officers on 101, quoting incident number 3058 of October 6.

In a statement, Police Scotland said: "An elderly woman has died after been struck by a car whilst crossing a road in Linwood on Saturday

"Around 5.10pm, Elizabeth Dunnion, 85, of Linwood, was crossing Bridge of Weir Road, near to Hart Street, Linwood when she was struck by a black coloured Mazda 3 car.

"She was taken by ambulance to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley with a serious head injury but unfortunately died from her injuries on Sunday.

"Relatives are aware and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

"The 27-year-old male driver was uninjured."
