A woman was sexually assaulted after being followed into the toilets of an Airdrie club.

The 22-year-old was enjoying a night out at Pulse, in the town's Graham Street, on Saturday night when the attack took place.

Shortly before 1pm on Sunday morning she went to the toilets when a man followed her in and sexually assaulted her.

Police said the woman received a head injury although she did not require hospital treatment.

Officers are now urgently trying to trace the attacker, whose actions left the woman "extremely shaken".

The suspect is described as white, around 40 years of age, 5ft 9 tall, unshaven and with a stocky build and short dark brown hair.

At the time of the attack he was wearing a black top, black trousers and black shoes.

Detective constable Thomas Kiernan of Coatbridge Police Office said: "It is imperative that we trace the man responsible for this sexual assault as soon as possible.

"We have been carrying out enquiries since this incident was reported and are continuing to view CCTV footage from the local area.

"I would like to trace any witnesses to this assault or anyone with information that will assist this police investigation. In particular, I would like to trace a woman who came to the victim's assistance in the toilet area during the incident.

"She will have vital information that will assist our enquiry, and I would urge her to come forward as soon as possible."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Coatbridge Police Office on 101.
