A digger has been used to steal an ATM from a newsagent in Lanarkshire.

Main Street in Forth has been closed off as emergency services deal with the incident, which took place around 4am on Friday.

The digger used in the ram raid theft was left at the scene as those involved drove off with the ATM in a car.

The Usave newsagent that was targeted is extensively damaged and will now be assessed by building damage control.

Officers investigating the theft have sealed off the area and put road diversions in place as they carry out their enquires.

There has been no reports of any injuries.

A police spokeswoman said: "At around 4.10am on Friday we were called to reports of an ATM theft at a newsagent on Forth Main Street in Lanarkshire.

"A digger which was used in the theft has been left at the scene.

"Diversions remain in place as officers carry out enquires."
