Police have recovered £625,000 worth of drugs following a raid in Glasgow.

Officers from the  Pro-active Unit discovered the large amount of herbal cannabis after searching a property in Preston Street, Govanhill, at around 7.15pm on Thursday.

Six men, aged between 22 and 50, have been arrested in connection with the haul and will appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Friday.

A Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed that a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

Detective inspector Steven Elliott said: "This operation has resulted in the arrest of six people and a large amount of cannabis taken off the streets.

"Targeting those involved in drugs remains a priority for Police Scotland. They have absolutely no place in our communities.

"We recognise the damage that drugs cause across the country and we have teams of specialist officers working every day to tackle the problem.

"These people have no thought for the harm their drug pedalling causes, all they care about is making money from their criminal activities.

"People can be assured, we will do everything in our power to continue to arrest those involved and take drugs off the street."
