A play depicting life at one of Glasgow's most famous - or infamous - markets opens this weekend.

Created by Irish immigrants, Paddy's Market operated for 200 years in the city's east end.

Now, 'Paddy's: A New Music for an Old Market' is set to bring back memories of the famous lane with a three night run at The Shed in Glasgow's Southside.

The production by Tram Direct takes the audience down the bustling lane to meet the hawkers and traders, and looks at the impact of its controversial closure almost 10 years ago.

The play's writer Paul Moore told STV News: "Paddy's has a place in the hearts for many many Glaswegians.

"There is a family of Paddy's Market's across the world, Glasgow shut its Paddy's down. That is ridiculous."

He continued: "We have in this city, that signs 'People Make Glasgow', for 200 years Paddy's made Glasgow. That's what this play embraces."
