A 68-year-old woman has died following a road collision that caused a car to overturn onto its roof.

Lily Thom from Hamilton died in hospital on Friday, 24 hours after the crash that took place at around 11.20am on Thursday.

The incident took place when a red Honda Jazz car lost control and collided with a blue Nissan Micra on Silvertonhill Avenue near to Avonbank Crescent.

As a result of the collision the red Honda car overturned onto its roof and the blue Nissan Micra left the carriageway.

Emergency services attended and both female drivers were taken to University Hospital in Wishaw where Ms Thom died on Friday.

The other driver, an 84-year-old woman, suffered a chest injury.

The area where the collision happened was closed for several hours as road crash investigators conducted enquiries at the scene.

Officers from Road Policing in Motherwell are appealing to anyone who may have been in the area and witnessed the incident to contact them via 101.
