More than ten people were treated by medics after suspected CS gas was sprayed in a Wetherspoon's pub.

Emergency services, including environmental health units, were called to The Last Post in Paisley on Sunday night following reports of a gas leak at 8.15pm.

An engineer confirmed there was no leak and suspected CS spray is understood to have been let off in the pub.

Staff had already evacuated the building in County Square by the time emergency crews arrived after 9.30pm, however several people had to be treated at the scene.

Wetherspoon spokesman Eddie Gershon said the pub's manager was initially alerted to "a gas substance in the air" by a staff member.

He said: "The pub was evacuated immediately and 999 called to say that we believed there to be some sort of serious gas leak.

"The gas engineer arrived and he concluded that it was not a gas leak.

"A wide range of emergency crews were at the pub by this stage, including fire officers getting dressed into full hazmat suits, and are told later it was a suspected CS gas being let off and this was later confirmed."

Police and fire teams sealed off the area, including closing down Paisley Gilmour Street railway station.

CCTV footage is now being investigated.

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesman added: "We dispatched our special operations team, our emergency medical retrieval service and one ambulance to the scene."

A Police Scotland spokeswoman confirmed officers are following a "positive line of inquiry".
