A 74-year-old woman has died after a crash between a bus and a lorry in Lanarkshire.

The woman, a passenger on the bus, was seriously hurt in the smash and taken by ambulance to Wishaw General Hospital, where she later died.

Two other female passengers on the bus, aged 77 and 78, sustained minor injuries and have since been discharged from hospital.

The 63-year-old driver of the orange bus was treated by ambulance staff at the scene for minor injuries, while the 59-year-old male driver of the white Renault HGV was uninjured.

A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

The incident happened at around 4.05pm on Wednesday on the M74 southbound, near Junction 6, Motherwell.

Police are now keen to trace anyone who witnesses the accident.

Sergeant Stewart Dyer said: "We would like to hear from anyone who saw the crash, including those with any dashcam footage, and also the drivers of two cars, one blue and one red, who were in the area round the time of the crash.

"Their information could prove vital to the investigation."
