Almost £900,000 is to be given to the family of Liam Miller after a tribute match following his death from cancer.

A crowd of almost 43,000 turned out at the fundraising game at Cork's Pairc Ui Chaoimh for the tribute match in September.

Teams of Manchester United and a combined Republic of Ireland and Celtic legends side drew 2-2, before United prevailed in a penalty shoot-out.

A total of £891,000 is to be given to Miller's family following the match.

Miller, an ex-Manchester United, Celtic and Republic of Ireland midfielder, died from cancer in February aged 36.

From the game, a further £222,000 has been raised for the Marymount Hospice, £89,000 for the Jack O'Driscoll Fund and £31,000 for the Mercy Hospital Foundation and Oesophageal Cancer Fund.

Almost £18,000 each will be given to Enable Ireland, Cork Simon, Penny Dinners and Down Syndrome Cork.

A statement from the Miller family said: "We would like to thank everyone involved from the bottom of our hearts.

"The love and support you have shown will always be remembered and treasured by us."

The match was held to raise money for charities with his wife Clare and their three children also benefiting.

The Manchester United legends team was managed by Roy Keane and included former greats such as Gary Neville, Ryan Giggs, Nicky Butt and Dion Dublin.

Martin O'Neill managed the Celtic and Ireland squad which included John Hartson, Stillian Petrov, Robbie Keane and Damien Duff.
