A woman found herself locked in a tanning salon after falling asleep on a sunbed.

Police were called to Tan Tan Tan in Paisley, Renfrewshire, after the confused customer was wakened by the beeping sound of the alarm being set by staff.

Fortunately, she was able to escape via the fire exit without the need for forced entry.

Salon owner David Paling told STV News it was "the first time this has ever happened" in his 23 years of tanning.

He explained that the woman was not spotted by staff closing up for the night. The female worker was said to be "mortified" by her mistake.

David added: "She checks each cabin at the end of the night.

"She goes in, switches the sunbed off, cleans it and closes the door.

"Unfortunately, she thought she'd already finished that cabin and hadn't realised someone was still in there."

The "poor girl" left behind was said to be a regular customer and found the funny side of the mishap.

David added: "I apologised and she's happy with a few bits and bobs I've offered.

"She's fine, there was no danger."

The incident happened on Tuesday night.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: "Police were called at 10.50pm to a report of a woman locked within a premises.

"Officers attended and the woman was able to get out.

"The premises was secured."
