A murder investigation has been launched after a man was stabbed to death near a pub.

Owen Hassan was found seriously injured next to the Old Stagg Inn on Greenview Street in Shawlands, Glasgow, at 10.25pm on Wednesday.

The 30-year-old, from Shawlands, was pronounced dead at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

Officers have described the attack as "extremely violent".

His family have been informed of the death.

Inspector Graham MacKellar said: "This was an extremely violent assault and at this time we are trying to establish the exact circumstances and motive for such an attack.

"Officers are currently viewing CCTV and speaking to local people in the area in an attempt to gather more information.

"I appeal to anyone who was in the vicinity of Greenview Street at around 10.20pm last night (Wednesday) and either witnessed Mr Hassan being assaulted, or perhaps saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area, to come forward."

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesman added: "We received a call at 10.30pm on Wednesday to attend an incident on Greenview Street in Glasgow.

"We dispatched two ambulances to the scene and transported one male patient in his 30s to Queen Elizabeth Hospital."
