A man has appeared in court charged with causing the death of a motorcyclist while drunk.

William McLean was arrested over the death of Allan Nicholson, 24, who was struck on the East Kilbride Expressway.

Mr Nicholson was thrown from his bike and pronounced dead at the scene at 6.45am on Saturday.

McLean, of Glasgow, has been charged with death by dangerous driving as well as getting behind the wheel while being drunk.

The 34-year-old made no plea or declaration during the private hearing at Hamilton Sheriff Court and was committed for further examination.

He was released on bail and is due to appear in court at a later date.
