A business owner has stepped in to help brides-to-be affected by the closure of a wedding shop.

Berketex Bride, which has branches in Edinburgh and Glasgow, announced on Tuesday that it will cease to trade and all outlets trading under the name will be closed for good.

The move has left hundreds of future brides in limbo over their big day.

However, one shop in Helensburgh has offered to assist those whose plans are in tatters by allowing them to spread the cost of a new dress as well as helping them source the gown they are looking for.

KJ Mills, owner of The Wedding Planner Shop, said: "If your wedding is really close we might not be able to get anything in from manufacturers but we will obviously do everything we can to either use our current stock or to make sure we can beg borrow and steal from our wonderful suppliers and try and solve the problem for you.

"Even although it might not be your dream dress, it might be an even better dream dress. We're trying to keep the joy of their day alive because it's so important; it's such an important day in everyone's life."

One of the brides affected is Stacey Campbell, from Stirling.

The mother-of-two was given the option to pay the dress in full and collect it, but cannot afford to do so.

She has now lost the dress and is fighting to get her deposit back.

Stacey and her fiancé Rab were engaged in 2016 and plan to marry in August next year at the Golden Lion Hotel in Stirling.

She told STV: "I'm lost for words. I think I spent all day yesterday crying.

"If I had the money to go and get that dress I would have. Until I get the deposit back I can't go and look for another dress because I don't have that money to put down.

"It's too close to Christmas and I've got my boys. I work part time. I just don't have the money."

Stacey, 32, tried her dress on in June and paid the deposit two days later.

"All I had to do was pay the remainder when I had the money but then I get this news," she said.

"It took me months to find this dress, my dream dress. Now I'm without."

In a statement Berketex Bride said: "The director of the company wishes to express his sincere apologies for the abrupt closure of the store and any subsequent inconvenience this may cause to customers of the company.

"Wilson Field Limited appreciate that this will be distressing for the customers of the company and will deal with individual queries as quickly as possible however we anticipate a high volume of calls and therefore ask for your patience in advance."
