A pedestrian has been hospitalised with serious injuries after being hit by a car during rush hour in Glasgow.

The 47-year-old man was struck by a silver Renault Megane on Crownpoint Road, Gallowgate, at around 5.50pm on Thursday.

He was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary, where medical staff have described his condition as serious.

The 42-year-old male driver of the vehicle involved was uninjured, however he has been left badly shaken by the accident.

The road was closed for several hours to allow the crash scene investigators to conduct enquiries. Police are now appealing for witnesses.

Sergeant Kenny Malaney said: "I believe the road would have been busy with other motorists and pedestrians at the time of the incident and I am appealing to people who were there to contact us.

"In particular, I'm appealing for anyone with a dashcam as their footage could assist us in our enquiries."
