A car was smashed into a gate and house wall and set on fire in a suspected 'gangland attack'.

The blue saloon vehicle was deliberately reversed into the North Lanarkshire property's gates and surrounding wall before being set alight by the attackers.

The incident happened at around 12.10am on Wednesday in Forrest Street, Airdrie.

STV News understands the incident is connected to gangland feuds.

The occupants then made off from the scene in another car, which was last spotted driving towards the roundabout at Carlisle Road.

No-one was injured in the incident. Police are now appealing for witnesses.

Detective Constable Ben Simpson said: "Officers are reviewing CCTV footage to help identify those involved.

"I am also appealing for anyone who was in the area and who may have filmed the incident on their mobile phone or captured it on their vehicle's dashcam to get in touch."
